President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm two new appointments into major national positions, forwarding their names for legislative approval. In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the president nominated retired Admiral Jamila Abubakar Sadiq as National Commissioner representing Adamawa State at the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the letter read during plenary, the nomination complies with constitutional provisions guiding federal appointments. After the announcement, the Senate President referred the request to the Senate Committee on INEC for screening and further legislative review, directing the panel to report back within one week.
In a separate correspondence, the president also sought lawmakers’ approval for Ismail Yusuf to serve as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. The nomination, Tinubu noted, follows the requirements of the NAHCON Act 2026, which outlines procedures for leadership appointments into the commission.
The Senate has now assigned the second request to its Committee on Rules and Business for consideration. If both nominees pass screening and secure legislative confirmation, they will assume responsibilities in their respective institutions, strengthening leadership in electoral administration and national pilgrimage coordination.
