AFCON 2025: Senegal beat Sudan, become first team to qualify for quarter-final

Senegal have become the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a solid win over Sudan. The defending champions showed their experience and quality in the match, controlling possession and creating the better chances as they pushed for early qualification from their group.

The Lions of Teranga took the lead through a well-worked team move and later added another goal to seal the victory. Sudan tried to respond with a more aggressive approach in the second half but struggled to break down Senegal’s organised defence and midfield structure.

With this result, Senegal now have enough points to book a place in the last eight, giving them the advantage of resting key players and planning ahead for tougher matches. The win also boosts confidence within the squad as they continue their title defence.

Sudan, on the other hand, will now have to rely on their final group match to keep their hopes alive. The result leaves their qualification chances uncertain and puts pressure on them to get a positive outcome in their next game.
