South African singer Tyla, who recently won a Grammy, has spoken out against the bullying of Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a finalist in the Miss South Africa beauty pageant. Chidimma, a model with Nigerian and Mozambican roots, was caught in a nationality controversy after making it to the Top 16 of the competition in July.
Chidimma recently decided to withdraw from the contest, despite being among the Top 11 finalists. Her decision came after the South African Department of Home Affairs raised concerns about her mother’s possible involvement in fraud and identity theft.
Tyla expressed her disappointment over how Chidimma was treated. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tyla shared a report about Chidimma’s withdrawal and said, “Disappointed that this happened to her, but wish you all the best girl. Kill it!” She further stated, “I will always stand with South Africa, I just feel regardless of the opinions… She was bullied and that’s what I don’t stand for.”
In a positive turn of events, Miss Universe Nigeria has invited Chidimma Adetshina to join their contest, but Chidimma has not yet responded to the offer.
