BREAKING: Sowore, others shun warnings, lead retired police officers in protest [PHOTOS]

Omoyele Sowore, who ran for president under the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, joined other activists to lead a protest in Abuja. They stood with retired police officers who are asking for better welfare.

The protest was held to push for improved living conditions and benefits for former members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers had earlier declared that they would protest at the National Assembly and later head to the Force Headquarters. Their main demand is to be removed from the contributory pension scheme.

The retirees described the current pension arrangement as unfair and said many of their members have died due to poor support.

However, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) warned the retirees against protesting. They advised them to come back to the negotiation table instead.

The PCRC claimed that the protest was not just about pensions but also an effort to damage the image of the Inspector General of Police and President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
