Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again made headlines—this time for a surprising mix of compassion and criticism toward Joe Biden. Trump shared kind words for Biden after his cancer diagnosis but also blamed his team for actions he claims nearly destroyed the country.
Trump, known for being tough on immigration, has promised to carry out the biggest deportation effort in U.S. history. During his campaign, he often blamed Biden for not doing enough to stop illegal immigration.
But in a recent message, Trump surprised many by showing sympathy for Biden. After it was revealed that Biden has late-stage prostate cancer, Trump said the real issue wasn’t Biden himself, but the people around him.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote that the Biden people once knew would never support open borders or let dangerous people enter the country without checks. He said Biden never talked about open borders before.
Trump added that Biden wasn’t in charge of those decisions. He believes people around Biden took control while he was mentally unwell. Trump called their actions “treason” and said they put the U.S. in great danger.
He went on to say that these people made big decisions for Biden, even though they knew he wasn’t well. According to Trump, their choices cost the country hundreds of billions of dollars, and they should face serious punishment.
“These traitors tried to destroy America, but they failed because I stepped in,” Trump said boldly.
Congressman James Comer, who leads the Government Reform Committee, said he tried to subpoena three of Biden’s aides—Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal, and Ashley Williams—over the use of an autopen, a machine that signs documents. He claimed the White House blocked the request.
Although Trump hasn’t mentioned anyone by name, a conservative group called the Oversight Project claimed that Biden’s team often used the autopen to sign important documents. They suggested that whoever controlled the autopen, controlled the presidency.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Trump has spoken kindly about Biden. Back in 2020, Trump said Biden was “a very nice man.” After Trump survived an assassination attempt in 2024, he revealed that Biden had personally called him and was very kind.
Since returning to office, Trump has quickly taken action on immigration. On his first day, he declared a national emergency at the southern border and started reversing Biden-era immigration programs. Trump had previously called Biden’s approach “Biden’s invasion.”
Under Biden, migrants could use a smartphone app called CBP One to book asylum appointments. Another program allowed 30,000 people each month from places like Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the U.S. legally if they met certain rules.
Trump has promised to end these programs, saying doing so would help remove over a million undocumented immigrants.
Now, the combination of Biden’s health news and his team’s use of the autopen is bringing even more attention. While Trump first showed sympathy, he later questioned how long the White House had known about Biden’s illness.
Biden’s cancer is very serious. It’s a stage 4 prostate cancer, rated 9 on the Gleason scale, which means it’s aggressive and has already spread to his bones. A White House official said Biden only learned of it last week after a medical check showed a problem. He hadn’t had a prostate screening since 2014.
Many have raised concerns about Biden’s mental sharpness throughout his presidency. Some public moments have made people question his ability to lead.
As the political drama continues, Trump’s mix of compassion and criticism shows just how complicated and heated the 2024–2025 political season has become.
