Gunmen attacked the Ishieke Police Division in Ebonyi State on Wednesday night, June 26.

The attack began around 9:30 pm with intense gunfire, causing residents to hide.

During the shootout, police reportedly killed five of the attackers.

Mr. Tony Nwori, a source, said the gunmen arrived in two cars and began shooting wildly into the air.

He said the gunmen and police exchanged fire for over 30 minutes before more security forces arrived for backup.

Another source said the incident attracted more security personnel, including the Army, who came in large numbers to catch the attackers.

The source added, “They continued shooting wildly while moving to Odomoke Ishieke market along Nwiboko Obodo road in Ebonyi Council Area.”

Videos from the scene show the police station on fire.

Another video showed some of the attackers who were shot dead.

Residents in the area shared their fear on social media as the attack unfolded.
