President Trump to release all JFK assassination files totaling over 80,000 pages today

President Donald Trump has announced that all remaining 80,000 pages of secret files related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy will be released today.

Speaking at the Kennedy Center, Trump said, “People have been waiting for decades for this.” He also mentioned that he did not expect any parts of the files to be hidden or redacted.

Last month, the FBI revealed that it had found around 2,400 additional records related to the assassination. These documents were previously not recognized as part of the case. In February, the FBI began transferring these files to the National Archives for public release. However, the agency did not specify what information the documents contained.

Shortly after taking office, Trump signed an order to declassify files related to not only JFK’s assassination but also the deaths of his brother, Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The order required government officials to create a plan within 15 days for the full release of these records.

In 1992, Congress passed the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act. This law required all assassination-related documents to be kept in the National Archives and made public. Agencies were given 25 years to review and release the documents, but some files remained classified until now.

The National Archives has already made millions of pages available to the public, with the most recent release in August 2023. As of December 2022, over 97% of JFK-related records had been disclosed.

With this new release, historians and the public will have access to more details about one of the most debated events in American history.
