Finland’s President, Alexander Stubb, has warned that if Russia wins the war in Ukraine, the United States will lose its global influence. He made this statement as concerns grow in Europe about former US President Donald Trump’s stance on the conflict.
Speaking at an event marking three years since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Stubb stressed that the war is not just about Ukraine’s independence but also about European security and America’s leadership in global affairs.
Finland, which joined NATO in 2023, has long prepared for security threats from Russia. Stubb emphasized that Finland is a strong member of the alliance, not just relying on others for protection. He pointed out that Finland has one of the largest militaries in Europe and has consistently invested in defense due to the threat from Moscow.
Stubb strongly believes that allowing Russia to claim victory in Ukraine would be a major defeat for the United States. He urged continued support for Ukraine, stating that the war must be fought to the very end to prevent Russia from gaining more power.
