Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has said that Moscow is open to talks about ending the war with Ukraine. However, he made it clear that Russia will only stop fighting if the peace agreement benefits the country.
Speaking in Turkey on the third anniversary of the war, Lavrov claimed that Russia was discussing a peace settlement with the United States.
At the same time, he accused Europe of wanting to prolong the conflict instead of working toward peace.
Lavrov said that Moscow is willing to negotiate with Ukraine, Europe, or any other representatives who genuinely want to help bring peace. However, he stressed that Russia will only agree to a deal that provides a lasting and fair result for the country.
“But we will stop hostilities only when these negotiations produce a firm and sustainable result that suits the Russian Federation,” Lavrov said.
He also called on the United States to appoint a representative for possible peace talks with Russia. According to him, discussions between Russian and US officials in Saudi Arabia last week were positive.
He mentioned talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other White House officials as part of this effort.
While Russia expresses interest in negotiations, it remains firm that the terms must be in its favor. The war continues, with no immediate sign of a resolution.
