A recent YouGov poll has shown that only a small number of Conservative voters think Kemi Badenoch will make a good Prime Minister.
As she nears 100 days as the leader of the Conservative Party, just one in four voters believes she has what it takes to lead the country.
The survey revealed that 48% of those who voted Conservative in the 2024 election view her as a possible future Prime Minister, while 26% do not. In contrast, only 14% of the general public believes she could be the next PM.
Among voters of other parties like Labour, Liberal Democrats, and Reform UK—whom the Tories are trying to win over—about two-thirds do not think Badenoch has the qualities needed to be Prime Minister.
The poll also showed mixed feelings about her personal image. While 39% of voters find her untrustworthy, only 19% consider her trustworthy. Similarly, 39% of voters don’t like her, compared to 24% who do.
Despite this, Badenoch is still supported by most 2024 Conservative voters, with 56% saying she is doing a good job as party leader.
Badenoch faces challenges as the Conservative Party struggles in the polls. A recent survey showed that the party is now in third place behind Labour and Reform UK.
However, the same poll indicated that most voters, including 59% of Conservative voters, believe the party would still struggle no matter who the leader is.
Badenoch, who is of Nigerian descent, has been firm on her immigration policies. She has argued that immigrants should live in the UK for at least 15 years before becoming eligible for British citizenship.
She believes in reducing immigration and making life in the UK more meaningful for citizens.
As the next election nears, there is also speculation about a potential deal between the Conservative Party and Reform UK to unite the right.
A recent poll suggests that Reform UK could gain a significant number of seats, while Labour would lose some seats but remain the largest party in the next election.
