States getting more money under Tinubu, fuel subsidy removal a blessing – Uzodinma

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has described the removal of fuel subsidies under President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a major benefit for state governments. He explained that the policy has brought increased funds to the states, allowing them to undertake more development projects and improve the lives of their citizens.

The governor made this statement while inspecting projects to celebrate the first year of his second term. He acknowledged that although the initial effects of subsidy removal were challenging, the long-term benefits have proven to be significant.

“In balancing the challenges of subsidy removal with the benefits of improved infrastructure and social programs, it is clear that this policy is a blessing,” Uzodinma said. “State governments are now receiving more funds, and we must use them to show real progress in addressing the needs of our people.”

President Tinubu officially ended the fuel subsidy regime on May 29, 2023, during his inauguration. He emphasized that the subsidy was unsustainable and redirected funds towards projects that would directly benefit the nation and its citizens.

Uzodinma called on state governments to maximize these additional funds by implementing visible development projects. “It’s our responsibility to use this opportunity to prove that these resources are making a difference,” he added.

With increased financial resources, state governments are now better positioned to enhance infrastructure, ease the cost of doing business, and provide critical social services. This move is expected to have a lasting impact on the development and prosperity of states across Nigeria.
