The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched a new program called WASSCE PC1, enabling students to retake their WASSCE exams earlier than before. The exams will be held in January and February 2025, providing a faster route for students to improve their grades.
This initiative marks a significant shift from the previous system, where students had to wait for the next private exam session. The announcement was made by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, on December 31, during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana.
A Faster Way to Boost Results
WASSCE PC1 is designed to help students who want to improve their grades without waiting too long. According to Kapi, students have until January 8 to register online through WAEC’s official website or at accredited internet cafés. The exams are scheduled to take place from January 24 to February 15, 2025.
To assist candidates, WAEC plans to release chief examiners’ reports much earlier than usual. These reports contain detailed advice on common mistakes and strategies for success, helping students prepare more effectively.
Accessibility and Eligibility
WAEC is actively promoting the new program through banners, its website, and the results checker platform to ensure everyone is informed. Students whose results were canceled can also register for the exams if they are not under a ban for malpractice.
Initially, the exams will be conducted only in regional capitals because of the expected smaller number of candidates. Kapi urged students to register before the January 8 deadline, emphasizing that the initiative aims to help them improve grades quickly and continue their education without unnecessary delays.
Supporting Students’ Educational Journey
The new WASSCE PC1 program is expected to help students meet admission requirements for the next academic cycle, reducing disruptions to their studies. WAEC expressed confidence in this program’s ability to support students in achieving their academic goals.
