President Bola Tinubu has announced major changes to the South East Development Commission (SEDC) leadership. In a bold move, he replaced Hon. Emeka Atuma with Emeka Nworgu as chairman and restructured the board to enhance its effectiveness.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. Tinubu not only replaced three executive directors but also added two more, making the board a 16-member team—one more than the previous structure.
- Chairman: Emeka Nworgu takes over from Hon. Emeka Atuma.
- Executive Director for Finance: Stanley Ohajuruka replaces Anthony Ugbo.
- Executive Director for Projects: Toby Okechukwu replaces Obinna Obiekweihe.
- Executive Director for Corporate Services: Chief Sylvester Okonkwo replaces Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja.
- New Executive Directors Without Portfolio: Chidi Echeazu and Clifford Ogbede join the board.
While Tinubu removed Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa from the board, he retained several members, including Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, and Chief Hyacinth Ikpor. Other retained members include Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, and Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma.
Hon. Mark C. Okoye continues as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of SEDC. The president expects the team to bring their expertise to the table and work towards the Commission’s goal of driving development in the Southeast region.
The appointments are subject to Senate confirmation, and the revamped team is expected to hit the ground running once approved.
President Tinubu’s leadership reshuffle demonstrates his commitment to fostering growth and development in the Southeast. This new team is poised to tackle the challenges facing the region and deliver impactful results.
