The search for victims of the recent helicopter crash near Port Harcourt continues. On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) recovered another decomposed body from the Atlantic Ocean.
The helicopter, a Sikorsky SK76 registered as 5N BQG, went down off the coast of Bonny Finima on October 24, while carrying eight oil workers. So far, a total of five bodies have been recovered, including three found earlier and another discovered on Monday.
In the ongoing recovery efforts, the NSIB has been using remotely piloted aircraft and divers to search the area. After analyzing tidal patterns, they adjusted their search location and deployed two vessels equipped with advanced sonar technology to expand their search range.
Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of the NSIB, acknowledged the challenges faced during the operation but expressed gratitude for the cooperation from various partners, including the Nigerian Navy. He stressed the importance of treating the recovery process with respect for the victims and their families.
The NSIB is dedicated to working with both national and international partners to ensure a thorough investigation and recovery process. Their primary goal is to uncover the details surrounding the crash while providing support to the affected families during this difficult time.
