The ongoing legal battle over the estate of the late Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe has taken a new turn. Recent court documents reveal that the Lagos State High Court is demanding Christian Chukwuka Wigwe, a cousin of Herbert, to clarify his claims regarding the estate.
Christian had previously filed a caveat on behalf of Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, Herbert’s father, contesting how the estate should be divided according to Herbert’s will. Now, the court has officially issued an ultimatum, giving him just eight days to present his interest in the estate.
The notice from the court requires Christian to appear either in person or through a lawyer at the Lagos High Court Probate Registry. He must explain the legal basis for his claim and why it contradicts the interests of the other parties involved.
This warning indicates that Christian can no longer remain silent or rely solely on written statements. Last week, Emeka Wigwe, another brother of Herbert, reaffirmed the family’s support for the affidavit submitted by Christian. He emphasized that the family is not opposing the beneficiaries of Herbert’s will.
The court’s demand comes at the request of Mr. Uchechukwu Wigwe, who is recognized as the personal representative of Herbert’s estate under the will dated July 9, 2013. Christian must provide a solid explanation for his claims; otherwise, the court might dismiss his caveat and grant probate to the estate.
As this legal situation unfolds, it raises questions about Christian Chukwuka Wigwe’s background, his relationship with the late Herbert Wigwe, and how this may affect the estate’s beneficiaries.
