A journalist and human rights activist named Oluwatosin Oshibanjo has been kidnapped in Ogun State, Nigeria. He was taken from his home in Ijebu-Ode on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. His family is now in a state of panic, seeking help from authorities to locate him.

Oshibanjo’s mother, Tokunbo Bakre, believes his abduction is linked to his work on a case involving a woman who accused a pastor of getting her pregnant and forcing her to have multiple abortions. The woman recently gave birth and claims the pastor is the father, but he has denied this allegation.

Bakre explained that her son published information about this situation and attempted to get the pastor to respond. She learned of her son’s kidnapping while he was on the phone with his wife. Reports indicate that men came and took him away during the call.

“My son had intervened in this issue involving a lady and a pastor who also claims to be a doctor. She said the pastor impregnated her several times and forced her to have abortions. The last pregnancy caused serious problems between them,” she said.

Since the kidnapping, the family has been unable to contact him, which has added to their distress. Bakre expressed her fears for her son’s safety and urged authorities to help find and rescue him.

“I am appealing to the authorities to help me locate and rescue my son,” Bakre said.

A senior police officer confirmed that they are aware of the situation and that it has been reported, but could not provide further details.

The family’s plea highlights the ongoing issues of safety for journalists and activists in Nigeria. The community remains hopeful for Oshibanjo’s safe return.
