The Imo State Police have launched an investigation following serious claims made by actor Young C against the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). This announcement came from the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma.
In a viral video, Young C shared his experience from October 11 when he and his crew traveled from Port Harcourt to Owerri for a movie shoot. Due to safety concerns, they were advised to use fake money, known as prop money, during their filming. However, after finishing their shoot, they were stopped and searched by the Anti-Narcotics Unit, who discovered the prop money.
Young C alleged that the officers arrested them and demanded a bribe of N1.5 million for their release. He explained that despite telling the officers they were actors using prop money, the officers took them to the police station and held them for 24 hours. During this time, their phones were seized, preventing them from contacting family, lawyers, or their production team. Eventually, Young C’s lawyer was able to get involved, but the police still insisted on a payment of N300,000 for their release.
In response to these allegations, police spokesperson ASP Henry Okoye stated that the Commissioner has ordered a thorough investigation. He assured the public that any officer found guilty of misconduct will face appropriate disciplinary actions in line with police regulations, and the supervising officer will also be held responsible.
The situation has raised concerns about police conduct and accountability, prompting calls for a thorough examination of the Anti-Narcotics Unit’s actions.
’Meanwhile, the complainant and his film production crew are encouraged to report at the IGP X-Squad, Owerri to assist in the investigation process. The Imo State Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of citizens.” Okoye said.
