The fight against illegal oil activities in Nigeria continues as the Nigerian Navy has made a significant arrest in Bayelsa State. On August 2, 2024, personnel from Operation DELTA SANITY apprehended three individuals in Igbomotoru, a community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
During a routine patrol, the Navy’s Ship SOROH discovered the suspects with two fiber boats and one wooden boat, all loaded with illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). This operation highlights the Navy’s proactive approach to tackling illegal bunkering, which is a serious issue affecting the country’s economy and environment.

“Subsequently, the suspects were handed over to operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation.”

“After essential interrogation of the suspects, the patrol team discovered and impounded a large wooden boat laden with illegally refined products in Bassambiri, Bayelsa State.
“The suspects were later handed over to operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Nembe, Bayelsa State,” it said.
