Police Dismisses False Reports of Planned Attack on University of Abuja

The FCT Police Command has firmly denied recent rumors circulating online about a planned abduction or attack at the University of Abuja. These false reports, shared across various social media platforms, caused concern and alarm among students, university staff, and residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In recent days, social media has been buzzing with claims that a group of unidentified individuals was planning to launch an abduction at the University of Abuja campus. These rumors were spread quickly, fueling anxiety and creating fear among the university community and FCT residents. Many feared for the safety of the students, as the stories suggested that a major security threat was imminently.

However, in a strong rebuttal, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, issued a public statement to address these reports. She stated that the rumors were completely false and baseless. SP Adeh described the publications as the work of rumor mongers whose goal is to create unnecessary panic in the FCT.

“The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to false reports making the rounds on social media platforms. We want to assure the public that there is no truth to these rumors of a planned attack or abduction at the University of Abuja,” SP Adeh said in the statement.

The police spokesperson highlighted that the individuals responsible for spreading these rumors seem to be intentionally trying to cause alarm within the community. The FCT Police Command strongly condemned the spreading of unverified information, especially when it involves matters of public safety. SP Adeh urged the public to be cautious about the kind of information they consume and share, emphasizing the importance of relying on verified sources, especially regarding security issues.

In light of the false rumors, the FCT Police Command assured the public that security in and around the University of Abuja remains a priority. SP Adeh emphasized that police officers and other security agencies are working together to maintain peace and safety in the region. Regular patrols and surveillance activities are ongoing to ensure that students, staff, and residents are safe.

“We encourage everyone to go about their daily activities without fear. The police are in control, and there is no threat to the University of Abuja or any other part of the FCT at this time,” SP Adeh added.

The FCT Police Command has also warned that spreading false information could lead to severe consequences. SP Adeh urged citizens to act responsibly, reminding them that sharing unverified news can contribute to public unrest. She also encouraged people to report any suspicious activities directly to the authorities rather than relying on social media platforms for news.

The FCT Police Command’s swift action to debunk these false reports shows their commitment to maintaining public safety and preventing unnecessary panic. It is important for the public to remain calm and avoid being misled by rumors, especially those that can cause fear and unrest.

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory and the university community are advised to trust only verified information from official sources and continue with their daily activities with confidence, knowing that the police and security forces are on alert and ready to protect the area.

‘’The Command hereby reiterates its commitment to securing and safeguarding the lives and property of residents in the FCT as adequate deployment of personnel and equipments have been implemented to enhance the security situation within the FCT, which includes the University of Abuja. The Command also urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the FCT Police Command’s emergency numbers: 080320039130802894088308061581938, and 07057337653. For complaints, please contact PCB at 09022222352 or CRU at 08107314192.” Adeh said
