Don’t panic over delays in my successor’s selection – VC MOUAU begs staff, students

The Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, has appealed to staff and students to remain calm amid delays in appointing his successor. He acknowledged that the process has taken longer than expected but urged the university community not to panic.

Professor Iwe said concerns about leadership transition are understandable, especially as his tenure approaches its end in March 2026. However, he encouraged everyone to stay confident and patient, expressing belief that the situation will be resolved at the right time. According to him, the university remains stable and focused on its academic mission.

The Vice Chancellor, who assumed office in March 2021, stressed that speculation and anxiety could distract the institution from its core responsibilities. He reassured stakeholders that the selection process is ongoing and called for unity, trust, and cooperation during the transition period.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged alleging that members of the university’s Governing Council may be slowing down key administrative activities of the outgoing leadership. These reports include claims that the institution’s 13th Convocation ceremony, initially expected in December 2025, has been delayed. The university management has not officially confirmed the allegations.
