Arsenal legend Paul Merson has suggested that Gunners players don’t trust their teammate Viktor Gyokeres. Speaking on The Overlap, Merson said that Arsenal rarely pass the ball to the Sweden international during matches, limiting his impact on the pitch.
Merson observed that Gyokeres often makes good runs and positions himself well, but his teammates fail to involve him in play. “Sometimes, just put it in the channel for him to give it a run. He’s low at the moment, and I don’t think they trust him at all,” Merson said.
The former Arsenal star noted that the Sweden forward’s lack of trust from teammates is affecting his performance and confidence. Merson emphasized that giving Gyokeres more involvement could help the team and boost his form.
Gyokeres joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon last year after an impressive season in the Portuguese league. Despite his potential, Merson believes the Gunners must find ways to better utilize him if they want consistent attacking options.
