Killings in Kwara communities, a national disaster – Saraki

Former Senate President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has described the recent wave of killings in parts of Kwara State as a national disaster. He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the worsening insecurity affecting communities in both the northern and southern senatorial districts of the state.

Saraki expressed deep sorrow over the deadly attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, where many residents were killed and homes destroyed. He said the scale of the violence shows that the situation has gone beyond the control of the state government and now requires direct federal action.

In a statement released by his media aide, Saraki urged the President to order security agencies to form a joint intervention team to flush out bandits operating in Kwara and neighbouring states. He specifically called for the deployment of troops from the Second Mechanised Infantry Division in Ibadan and the establishment of a permanent security base in the affected areas to prevent further attacks.

The former Senate President warned that Kwara’s strategic location makes it dangerous for insurgents to gain ground there. He stressed that the state, known as the “State of Harmony,” must not be allowed to descend further into violence. Saraki added that beyond statements of sympathy, decisive action is needed to restore peace and ensure such attacks never happen again.
