Ebonyi killings: Fish out perpetrators – Community urges security agencies, govt

The Nzuko Edda General Assembly has urged the Ebonyi State Government and security agencies to apprehend and prosecute perpetrators behind the recent deadly attack on Okporojo community in Edda Local Government Area. The call followed an emergency meeting of traditional rulers, village chiefs, and town union presidents from 72 autonomous villages under the assembly at Osisioma Playground, Edda. The gathering condemned the unprovoked violence that claimed lives and destroyed property.

His Royal Highness Ezeogo Charles Azuenya, Owu XII of Ebunwana Edda, lamented persistent attacks in Idima Autonomous Community, noting that over 75 residents have been killed in the past three years, with homes destroyed and villages displaced. The January 29, 2026 invasion of Okporojo marked a dangerous escalation, leaving at least four residents murdered and three beheaded. The monarch stressed that such brutality cannot go unanswered.

The assembly appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru and state security agencies to deploy forces to protect affected communities, rebuild destroyed homes, resettle displaced residents, and bring the attackers to justice. The meeting criticized the Amasiri community for ignoring government directives and escalating hostilities despite ongoing peace efforts.

Mr. Ama Eba Eme, President General of Oso Edda Development Union, described the attack as horrific and called for urgent intervention. He emphasized the need for government action to ensure the safety of residents, restore peace, and provide justice for victims.
