Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has opened up about the challenges of maintaining relationships as a celebrity. Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, the Kukere hitmaker revealed that past relationships left him traumatised, as some partners allegedly manipulated him and threatened to damage his public image during disagreements.
Iyanya, now 39, admitted that these experiences have caused him to develop commitment issues. He explained that being in the spotlight made relationships difficult because misunderstandings were often amplified through blogs and social media, which affected his trust and emotional stability.
The singer disclosed that he is not mentally ready for marriage or a serious relationship at the moment. “If you are patient and stick around until I get to a convenient space, then we can do it,” he said, emphasizing that being committed is currently one of the hardest things for him due to past heartbreaks.
He also revealed that he has embraced celibacy as a way to manage his struggles with commitment. However, Iyanya admitted that staying fully celibate is still a challenge, reflecting on the difficulties of balancing love, emotions, and fame in his 17-year music career.
