Paul Ibe, media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address allegations that N100 billion is being withdrawn monthly from the Federation Account without legislative approval. The claim was highlighted on Ibe’s social media page, drawing attention to a serious constitutional concern.
Ibe referenced statements by former Kaduna State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader, Nasir El-Rufai, alleging that the withdrawals were carried out without appropriation by the National Assembly or State Houses of Assembly. He described the alleged action as unconstitutional and potentially an impeachable offense.
Highlighting the lack of response from the Presidency, Ibe questioned why President Tinubu and his administration had remained silent on the matter. He suggested that the government’s inaction might be linked to the President’s ongoing foreign trip to Turkey, with no clear date for his return.
The media aide urged the government to provide clarity and transparency on the alleged withdrawals to prevent a growing perception of unconstitutional financial conduct. The controversy raises concerns about fiscal accountability and legislative oversight in Nigeria.
