Amnesty International calls for investigation into alleged killings by DSS personnel in Abuja

Amnesty International has called for an urgent and transparent investigation into the alleged killing of two men by personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Karmajiji community, Abuja. The rights group described the incident as a serious abuse of power and an example of unlawful use of force by security operatives meant to protect citizens.

In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, Amnesty said the incident reportedly occurred on January 19, 2026. One of the victims, Musa Adamu, was said to have died a few hours after the shooting, while the second victim, Mallam Suleiman Salisu, later passed away on January 28 at the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja. The organisation insisted that the officer allegedly involved must be thoroughly investigated.

Amnesty International stressed that the case should not be ignored, warning that failure to act would further weaken public trust in security agencies. According to the group, unchecked misconduct by security personnel creates fear in society and exposes citizens to repeated violations of their rights. It added that justice must be served through a fair and open legal process.

The organisation also raised concern over what it described as the growing involvement of security operatives in civil and non-criminal matters. Amnesty warned that such actions, including alleged torture and misuse of authority, undermine the rule of law and put innocent people at risk. It urged Nigerian authorities to ensure accountability and protect human rights across the country.
