Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused President Bola Tinubu of making illegal deductions from the federation account, claiming the action is serious enough to warrant impeachment. El-Rufai made the allegation during an interview on Prime Time on Arise Television, monitored by DAILY POST.

According to El-Rufai, the Federal Government has been deducting ₦100 billion monthly from the federation account without approval from the National Assembly or state assemblies. He said the deductions have lasted for over 15 months, adding up to about ₦1.5 trillion. He stressed that part of the funds belongs to states, making legislative approval mandatory.

El-Rufai argued that spending public funds without appropriation is unconstitutional and amounts to a clear impeachable offence. He questioned how such a huge sum has been used, especially at a time when Nigerians are still facing worsening insecurity. He also wondered why communities are being asked to defend themselves if so much money is supposedly being spent on security.

The former governor expressed deep disappointment with the current situation, saying he never imagined things would get this bad when he was campaigning alongside Tinubu in 2022 and 2023. According to him, the growing hardship and insecurity raise serious concerns about accountability and transparency in governance.
