Osborne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara Local Government Area ahead of the forthcoming council election in Ebonyi State. He secured the party’s ticket unopposed during the APC primary election held at Obiozara Primary School in Uburu.
Osborne, who was the only contestant, polled all 54 votes cast by accredited delegates at the primary. The Deputy State Chairman of the APC, Alphonsus Nwali, who chaired the electoral committee, formally declared him the winner. Nwali praised party members in Ohaozara for their consistent support for the APC in past state and national elections, assuring them of transparency and people-focused leadership.
In his acceptance speech, Osborne Umahi promised to prioritise road construction if elected. He said his administration would focus on opening up rural roads to connect farmlands with markets, making it easier for farmers to transport their produce. He also pledged to introduce policies aimed at empowering youths and creating more economic opportunities within the local government area.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, thanked President Bola Tinubu for appointing him into office and appreciated Governor Francis Nwifuru for backing his son’s candidacy. He expressed confidence that Osborne would deliver on his promises, particularly in agriculture, youth employment and infrastructure development. Umahi also urged people of the South-East to continue supporting President Tinubu, saying the administration is addressing long-standing issues in the region.
