EPL: ‘He’s been unbelievable’ – Scholes snubs Rice, names Arsenal’s best player this season

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has stirred debate by claiming that Declan Rice has not been Arsenal’s best player this season. While acknowledging Rice’s quality and influence in Mikel Arteta’s side, Scholes believes other players have made a bigger difference as the Gunners push for the Premier League title.

Speaking during a fan debate on The Overlap, Scholes pointed to Arsenal’s defenders as the real drivers of the team’s strong campaign. According to him, the back line has provided the stability and balance that has allowed Arsenal to stay ahead of rivals like Manchester City. He singled out Jurrien Timber, describing the Dutch defender as outstanding and “unbelievable” in his performances.

Scholes also compared Rice’s role in midfield with that of Martin Zubimendi, suggesting both players have been important but neither stands clearly above the other. While Rice has delivered consistent displays, the former United star insisted that defensive contributions have had a greater overall impact on Arsenal’s success this season.

Arsenal will face Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table. A victory against the Red Devils would push Arteta’s side further clear of Manchester City, strengthening their title challenge and adding more weight to the debate over who has truly been Arsenal’s standout player this season.
