Police backtrack, admit 100 worshippers abducted in Kaduna’s Kajuru

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that more than 100 Christian worshippers were abducted in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. This clarification comes after earlier statements caused confusion and raised doubts about whether the incident actually happened.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police were aware of the fear and concern the reports created among residents and the wider public. He explained that the initial uncertainty followed a security meeting in Kaduna State where some people from the area questioned the report, even though the police had earlier acknowledged it.

Hundeyin added that comments previously made by the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police were misunderstood. He said the remarks were not meant to deny the abduction but were cautious statements made while officers worked to confirm the facts, including the number and identity of those taken. Further checks by security and intelligence teams have now verified that the abduction truly occurred.

Following this confirmation, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of tactical and intelligence units to Kajuru and nearby communities. The police said rescue operations are ongoing and urged the public and the media to rely on official updates, assuring Nigerians that efforts are being intensified to rescue the victims and restore calm.
