Mass abduction of Kaduna worshippers regrettable, shameful, disappointing – CAN chair, Rev Caleb

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State has strongly condemned the recent mass abduction of Christian worshippers in Kajuru Local Government Area. The incident, which happened on Sunday, January 19, 2026, involved bandits attacking three different church services and kidnapping about 170 worshippers. Six victims later escaped and returned home with injuries after reportedly being beaten by their captors.

Speaking on the incident, the Kaduna State CAN Chairman, Rev. Caleb Ma’aji Bawa, described the abduction as regrettable, shameful, and deeply disappointing. He said it was painful that such a crime occurred at a time when governments at different levels are working to ensure peace and allow citizens to carry out their daily activities without fear.

Rev. Bawa expressed concern over the presence of criminals who, according to him, have no regard for human life and continue to engage in kidnapping, killings, and destruction of property. He prayed for the safe return of all abducted worshippers and called for divine intervention to put an end to the rising wave of insecurity affecting many parts of the country.

He also urged citizens to support security agencies by exposing criminal elements within their communities. According to him, collective condemnation of such acts and cooperation with authorities are key to restoring peace. Rev. Bawa commended security personnel for their efforts so far and encouraged them to intensify actions aimed at preventing further attacks and ensuring national stability.
