Insecurity: Treat human lives as sacred – Peter Obi tells Nigerian Govt

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the Nigerian government to treat human lives as sacred amid the rising insecurity across the country. Obi said the frequent loss of lives due to banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks shows a deep failure in governance and priorities.

In his reaction, Obi stressed that no nation can make progress when the safety of its citizens is not guaranteed. He noted that Nigerians now live in constant fear, with reports of killings and abductions becoming regular occurrences in many parts of the country. According to him, protecting lives should be the government’s top responsibility.

Obi also urged authorities to move beyond empty statements and take decisive action against insecurity. He emphasized the need for better intelligence gathering, improved welfare for security personnel, and strong political will to confront criminal elements threatening peace and stability.

The former Anambra State governor appealed to leaders at all levels to show empathy and urgency in addressing the crisis. He said when leaders truly value human life, policies and actions will reflect care, justice, and accountability, adding that Nigerians deserve to live in safety and dignity.
