The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the ward-level distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. The commission disclosed that a total of 128,396 PVCs are ready for collection across the six area councils.
INEC explained that the decision to move distribution to the ward level is to make it easier for voters to collect their cards. According to the commission, the exercise will ensure wider access, reduce congestion, and encourage eligible voters to fully participate in the upcoming local government elections.
The electoral body also confirmed its preparedness for the polls, assuring residents that all necessary arrangements are being put in place. INEC urged registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to take advantage of the ongoing exercise, stressing that the card remains the only requirement for voting on election day.
As political activities intensify in the FCT, observers say the smooth distribution of PVCs is a key step toward a credible election. INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and transparent Area Council election, while calling on political parties and voters to cooperate throughout the process.
