Leaders of several Igbo town unions in Northern Nigeria have paid a solidarity visit to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Prison. The visit took place over the weekend and was aimed at showing support and unity with the detained pro-Biafra leader.
Nnamdi Kanu is currently serving a life sentence after he was convicted on terrorism-related charges by a Nigerian court on November 20, 2025. Since his sentencing, his case has continued to draw reactions from supporters and groups within and outside the country.
The visiting delegation was made up of past and present leaders of Igbo town unions in the North. The team was led by Sir Charles Elobi, First Vice President of the Igbo Association in Sokoto, alongside Onwa Okoro Clement, former President of the Enugu indigenes in Sokoto. About 50 leaders reportedly took part in the visit.
A video released after the visit showed the leaders pledging to remain united and committed in their effort to seek Kanu’s release. They said they would continue to speak with one voice and explore lawful means to push for his freedom, stressing the need for unity among Igbo communities.
