Public affairs commentator Seyi Sodimu has stirred debate by claiming that Afrobeats star Davido could successfully win a governorship election if he decided to contest, while Burna Boy may struggle to achieve the same feat. According to him, popularity alone is not enough to succeed in politics.
Sodimu explained that Davido connects more easily with everyday people and understands grassroots engagement, which is crucial in Nigerian politics. He noted that Davido’s open personality, generosity, and strong family background give him wider acceptance across different social groups.
In contrast, he said Burna Boy’s brand and lifestyle may not translate well into electoral politics. While acknowledging Burna Boy’s global success and influence in music, Sodimu argued that his image may not appeal to the diverse voters needed to win an election.
The analyst stressed that winning political office requires humility, patience, and the ability to build broad alliances. He added that although both artistes are talented and influential, Davido appears more politically relatable, making him a stronger potential candidate in any future governorship race.
