Kogi Govt begins demolition of suspected ISWAP, bandits’ hideouts

The Kogi State Government, under Governor Usman Ododo, has begun the demolition of suspected terrorist hideouts in Okene Local Government Area. The first operation targeted a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) hideout in Sambel, Idoji, following repeated bandit attacks in the region.

This action comes amid growing concerns over extremist activities in the state. Controversial cleric Sheikh Gumi previously claimed that a majority of terrorists operating in Kogi and parts of the South-West are indoctrinated Ebira youths. These youths, he noted, are susceptible to radical ideologies that fuel local insecurity.

Recently, the alleged mastermind behind the attack on Deeper Life Bible Church in Okene, reportedly linked to the Ansaru terrorist group, was rearrested and arraigned. Security sources indicate that these arrests reflect the increasing presence of extremist elements in the state.

The Kogi State Government has pledged to root out all criminal elements to restore peace and stability. Officials emphasized that these operations are part of a sustained effort to eliminate banditry and terrorism, ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
