Activist condemns alleged extra-judicial killing of peaceful protester in Edo

A human rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe, has strongly condemned the alleged extra-judicial killing of a peaceful protester in Ekpoma, Edo State. The activist described the act as “callous” and “barbaric,” stressing the need for justice for the deceased.

In his statement to DAILY POST, Joe recalled the tragic events at the Lekki tollgate during the #EndSARS protests, highlighting how excessive use of force has previously escalated peaceful demonstrations into violent confrontations.

He urged Nigerian institutions to uphold the fundamental rights of citizens and to discipline officers who violate these rights. According to Joe, such actions are necessary to maintain the integrity of security agencies and restore public trust.

The activist concluded by demanding accountability from the military, emphasizing that erring personnel must face strict sanctions. He stated that failing to address such abuses undermines the rule of law and the protection of human rights in the country.
