AFCON: Why we lost against Morocco – Cameroon coach, David Pagou

Cameroon head coach, David Pagou, has explained why his team lost to host nation Morocco in their quarter-final clash at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. According to Pagou, the defeat was not only about tactics, but also about missed chances and loss of concentration at key moments.

Speaking after the match, Pagou said Cameroon created good scoring opportunities but failed to convert them into goals. He admitted that Morocco were more clinical in front of goal and took advantage of Cameroon’s defensive mistakes. He also praised Morocco for playing with confidence and using home support to their advantage.

The coach added that his team struggled to control the tempo of the game, especially in the second half, which allowed Morocco to dominate possession and apply pressure. He said fatigue and poor decision-making affected his players’ performance as the match progressed.

Pagou concluded by accepting responsibility for the loss and promising that Cameroon will learn from the experience. He thanked the players and fans for their support and said the team will focus on rebuilding and coming back stronger in future competitions.
