Political commentator Austin Okai has predicted that the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State between former governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara could damage the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said the tension, if not well managed, may weaken the party’s influence in the state rather than strengthen it.
Okai explained that the conflict has created confusion among politicians and supporters, especially as both camps try to win public sympathy and political control. According to him, the situation is pushing many loyal party members into uncomfortable positions and could lead to internal division within the APC.
He added that instead of focusing on governance and development, political leaders are now more concerned about power struggles. This, he said, may affect the trust of Rivers people in the ruling political class and reduce voter confidence ahead of future elections.
Okai advised political actors to seek dialogue and peaceful resolution rather than escalating the conflict. He warned that prolonged crisis would not only affect individuals involved but could also damage the image and structure of the APC in Rivers State and beyond.
