Nigerian football star Francisca Ordega has launched a grassroots football clinic in Benue State aimed at discovering and developing young talents. The initiative, organised under the Francisca Ordega Foundation, took place at McCarthy Stadium and featured intensive coaching drills and technical training sessions for aspiring footballers.
Ordega personally led the programme alongside her international colleagues, including Super Falcons defender Ashley Plumptre. The clinic, held in partnership with Saudi Arabia-based Al-Ittihad Football Club, targeted young players aged 14 to 18, while also training local coaches in modern coaching techniques to strengthen grassroots football in the region.
The programme attracted over 100 participants, many of whom were thrilled to learn from elite professionals. Ordega explained that the clinic represents her commitment to giving back to society and advancing women’s football, providing opportunities for young girls that she lacked during her early career.
The two-day football clinic concluded with a competitive charity match, where Charity Academy Football Club narrowly defeated Invincible Angels FC 1–0 to claim the championship, highlighting the growing potential of grassroots football in Benue.
