Redeployment of Matawalle long overdue – Anti-terror civil society coalition

A coalition of civil society groups focused on counter-terrorism has said that the redeployment of Bello Matawalle from his current position is long overdue. The group said the change is necessary to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and improve public confidence in national security efforts.

In a statement, the coalition explained that insecurity has continued to worsen in parts of the country, especially in the North-West, and that new leadership and strategies are urgently needed. According to them, rotating key security officials is a normal step in strengthening institutions and should not be seen as punishment.

The group also noted that Nigeria’s security challenges require fresh energy, accountability and better coordination among security agencies. They believe that redeploying officials from time to time will help bring new ideas, reduce complacency and improve performance across the board.

They called on the Federal Government to take bold steps in reviewing security leadership and to put national safety above politics or personal interests. The coalition said Nigerians deserve a more effective and transparent approach to tackling terrorism and other security threats.
