The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that no governor or political figure has control over the ruling party. He explained that the APC is run strictly by its national structure and internal rules, not by powerful individuals. According to him, the party is guided by organisation, not personal influence.
Speaking during a radio programme in Jos, Plateau State, Yilwatda said that decisions taken in states are not independent of the party’s national leadership. He explained that all actions at the state level are aligned with the party’s national framework to ensure consistency and discipline across the country.
The APC chairman stressed that even top office holders like governors, senators, local government chairmen, and party leaders do not have absolute power over the party. He said the APC was built to avoid dominance by a few people and to encourage collective leadership and internal balance.
Yilwatda also revealed that the APC deliberately avoided creating a Board of Trustees so that no small group would hijack the party. He said the APC belongs to the people, and that ordinary members are the true custodians of the party, not elites or political godfathers.
