Middle Belt identity rooted in history, not political fabrication – MBF President Bitrus

The President of the Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Mr. Bitrus, has emphasized that the identity of the Middle Belt region is deeply rooted in history and culture, dismissing claims that it is a political fabrication. He made the remarks while addressing stakeholders during a recent forum on national unity and regional representation.

According to Bitrus, the Middle Belt has a distinct cultural, ethnic, and historical heritage that predates modern political arrangements. He stressed that the region’s identity is recognized by its people and should not be politicized or undermined for short-term political interests.

The MBF President also highlighted the importance of unity among the diverse ethnic groups in the Middle Belt. He called on government and civil society to acknowledge the region’s contributions to Nigeria’s history, politics, and development.

Bitrus further urged citizens to continue fostering dialogue and understanding across ethnic and religious divides. He warned that attempts to politicize the Middle Belt identity could threaten social cohesion, stressing that the region’s significance is anchored in centuries of shared history and cultural experience.
