The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed five of its officers and demoted nine others for various acts of misconduct. The agency said the decision followed internal investigations into complaints from members of the public and routine monitoring of officers on duty.
According to LASTMA, the affected officers were found guilty of behaviour that violated the agency’s code of conduct, including extortion, unprofessional conduct, and abuse of office. The agency stressed that it will not tolerate any action that damages its image or the trust of Lagos residents.
The management of LASTMA said the sanctions are meant to serve as a warning to other officers and to show that discipline and integrity remain top priorities. It added that officers are expected to carry out their duties with honesty, fairness, and respect for motorists and road users.
Residents have welcomed the move, saying it shows that the Lagos State Government is serious about improving service delivery and reducing harassment on the roads. LASTMA encouraged the public to continue reporting misconduct so that further action can be taken when necessary.
