A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of being biased and not fully truthful in its handling of the party’s internal crisis. The party leader said INEC’s actions and statements have made the situation worse instead of helping to calm tensions within the opposition party.
According to him, INEC has been “economical with facts”, meaning the electoral body has not been open or clear about what it knows concerning the PDP’s leadership disagreements. He claimed that selective information released by INEC is misleading the public and giving one side of the crisis unfair advantage over the other.
The PDP chieftain warned that if INEC continues on this path, it could damage public trust in the electoral system and weaken democracy. He stressed that the commission should remain neutral and act only within the law, without favouring any faction or interest group inside the party.
He called on INEC to correct its position and provide transparent information so that the crisis can be resolved peacefully. He also urged party leaders to return to dialogue and internal reconciliation, saying only honesty and fairness can restore unity within the PDP.
