Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly said he did not receive the type of support that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde reportedly got from President Bola Tinubu. Wike spoke about this during a media chat in Port Harcourt, highlighting a growing political disagreement between him and Makinde. His comment comes amid rising tension among leaders in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and discussions about their alliances.
Wike described claims made by Makinde about a private meeting with President Tinubu as unfair and untrue. He denied ever promising to “hold the PDP” for the president ahead of the 2027 elections, calling it a misunderstanding and insisting no such pledge was made.
The minister also pointed out that Makinde, according to him, has benefited from support that he personally never received. Wike questioned whether Makinde could genuinely deny receiving approval for significant financial backing, saying he himself never got similar support from President Tinubu.
This debate reflects deeper strains in Nigerian politics, especially within the PDP, as leaders grapple with alliances and plans for future elections. Wike’s comments underscore disagreements among party members about support, loyalty, and political strategy ahead of the next general election cycle.
