Former senator Kabiru Gaya Hanga has warned Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf against defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying such a move would not be accepted by the people of Kano. He said the governor should think carefully before taking any step that could upset his supporters and the wider public.
Hanga explained that Kano voters have strong political loyalties and expectations, and changing parties midstream could be seen as betrayal. According to him, many people voted based on trust and shared values, not just on political convenience.
He also advised the governor to focus on governance and delivering good results rather than getting distracted by political calculations. Hanga said improving security, education, health care, and job creation should be Yusuf’s main priority.
The warning comes amid growing rumours about possible defections ahead of future elections. Political analysts say such comments show that political realignments in Kano could have serious consequences for party support and voter confidence.
