2027: I will not be vice-president to anybody – Peter Obi

Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has declared that he will not contest the 2027 general election as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone. Obi said he has made up his mind to only pursue the presidency, stressing that he is not interested in serving as a running mate under any political arrangement.

Speaking to supporters, Obi explained that Nigeria needs strong, focused leadership at the top, and that his vision for the country can only be fully implemented if he leads directly. He said the problems facing the nation — including poverty, insecurity and economic hardship — require bold decisions that can only come from the highest office.

Obi also stated that his decision is based on principle and consistency, adding that he does not want to confuse voters or weaken the message of the movement he represents. According to him, clarity of purpose is important in politics, especially at a time when many Nigerians are demanding real change and accountability from their leaders.

The former presidential candidate urged Nigerians to stay engaged in the democratic process and continue pushing for better governance. He said 2027 offers another opportunity for citizens to demand leadership that prioritises transparency, fairness and national development.
