One US strike can’t solve Nigeria’s multifaceted insecurity problems – Ex-US Army Captain

A former US Army Captain has warned that a single US military strike cannot fully address Nigeria’s complex insecurity issues. He highlighted that Nigeria faces multiple security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and communal conflicts, which cannot be solved through airstrikes alone.

According to the expert, while foreign military support may help target terrorists, long-term solutions require coordinated efforts involving intelligence, local security forces, and community engagement. He emphasized that addressing root causes of insecurity is just as important as tactical military operations.

The former captain also advised the Nigerian government to combine military action with improved governance, social development, and stronger law enforcement. He stressed that relying solely on external strikes could lead to temporary results but won’t solve the structural issues behind insecurity.

Finally, he encouraged collaboration between regional and international partners, but cautioned that Nigeria must build its internal capacity to manage security independently. A comprehensive approach, rather than one-off attacks, is key to sustainable peace and stability.
