The Development Research and Documentation Institute (DRDI) has said that active involvement of citizens is very important for improving service delivery in Jigawa State. According to the group, when residents take part in decision-making and monitoring of public projects, government programmes become more effective and responsive to the real needs of the people.
DRDI explained that community participation helps to reduce waste, corruption, and abandoned projects because citizens can hold leaders accountable. It also allows government officials to understand local challenges better, especially in rural areas where development gaps are often more visible.
The organisation called on traditional rulers, civil society groups, and community leaders to encourage people to attend town hall meetings, public hearings, and budget discussions. It said such platforms give citizens a voice and help build trust between the government and the public.
DRDI added that stronger cooperation between citizens and the government will lead to better schools, healthcare, water supply, and roads across Jigawa State. When people feel included, they are more likely to support policies and protect public facilities, creating a healthier environment for development.
